ArcGIS Cartographer Seeds Student Worker

Description:
MnDOT’s Geographic Information and Mapping (GIM) section seeks a Seeds student worker to support transportation planning, design, construction, and maintenance through mapping and GIS analysis. Utilize ArcGIS Pro to update and produce municipal, county, and civil township maps. Responsibilities include reviewing, mapping, and maintaining bicycle status reports and data using GIS. Additional work includes assisting and contributing to the State Highway Map redesign, website development, and the MnDOT GIS Newsletter.

Primary Tasks:

  • Request information regarding the status of transportation systems and other features from local government, MnDOT offices, state agencies, and other sources
  • Work with others to create, maintain, and update the annual county bicycle map series
  • Help create step-by-step instructions for internal GIS training
  • Migrate information from a custom geoprocessing tool using ArcMap and Python for use in ArcGIS
    • Troubleshoot and correct migration issues
  • Recommend other options and tools to use in migration

Description:
The Office of Environmental Stewardship (OES) seeks a Seeds student worker to manage up-to-date environmental spatial data, increasing coordination within and across offices. Support customer trust, financial efficiency, and operational excellence by preserving institutional knowledge and streamlining the decision-making process for planning, program delivery, and operations.

Primary Tasks:

  • Create, update, and maintain existing GIS databases and applications using ArcPro, ArcGIS online, ERSI Enterprise, Experience Builder, and Story Maps
  • Assist with the development of Green Assets to record vegetation investments and functional roadside vegetation
  • Research, assist, and support conversations and development of GIS applications, datasets, and tools used by OES staff

The Metro South Area seeks a Seeds student worker to assist help with administrative tasks including community engagement and meeting scheduling with local partners in the metro area.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist the metro area engineer with coordination and communication tasks including scheduling and attending meetings
  • Respond to public comments regarding ongoing studies, construction projects, maintenance activities, and more
  • Coordinate internal and external project delivery with the metro area engineer regarding construction activities, deliverables, layout reviews, data recording, and reporting.

The Metro Right of Way Office seeks a Seeds student worker to help Project Controls staff members conduct field noise measurements, document measurements, and update the GIS database.

Primary Tasks:

  • Conduct field measurements of noise levels adjacent to MnDOT roadways for the Metro Standalone Noise Barrier Program and respond to public complaints
  • Update field measurement data for Metro Standalone Noise Barrier Study
  • Update noise measurement data using ArcGIS Online and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets

Traffic Incident Seeds Student Worker

Description:
The Office of Traffic Incident Management (TIM) seeks a Seeds student worker to assist in researching best practices and identifying gaps in response and clearance planning.

Primary Tasks:

  • Collect data and set up meetings in the development of After-Action Reviews (AARs)
  • Collect response time data of emergency responders from the State Patrol Computer Aided Dispatch system or traffic camera video
  • Work with district personnel and State Patrol to assist with road closure plans and traffic incidents on major freeway corridors
  • Help develop and track TIM-related performance measures such as incident response time, incident clearance time, and delays caused by incidents
