Small business development classes and networking
Classes will resume in early 2025. Meanwhile, check out our class recordings and eLearning.
A series of classes designed for the new and experienced small business owner and their staff, including professional/technical and contractor businesses. Learn to leverage your skills, increase your business capacity, position yourself to compete for MnDOT contracts and projects, and how to manage a successful project. Classes, which are interactive and activity based, are offered February through April online or at a physical location as needed. Expert instructors who have built or worked in a small business themselves will share their knowledge and resources in each session. Additional opportunities for one-on-one instruction and mentoring are available.
Class subjects include:
- Marketing your business and getting work
- Basic business and communication skills
- Drafting a business capability statement
- Designing a business portfolio and website
- Using social media to reach clients
- Finding capital or funding
- Responding to a Request for Proposal (RFP)
- Running a business
- Managing a crisis
- Expanding your team
- Overhead rate and audit processes
- Working with MnDOT once a project is secured
