Amended Special Transportation Service (STS) rules (Chapter 8840)
On September 14, 2023, changes to MN Rules Chapter 8840 were published and became effective. Changes include:
- STS providers are now required to obtain a US DOT number (if they do not already have one, one must be obtained at the time of renewal), and must be displayed on vehicles;
- Minimum insurance coverage raised to $500,000.00, combined single limit;
- New required content in the application;
- Other new grounds for denial of application;
- Introduction of the new "Minnesota Vehicle Requirements for Special Transportation Services and Limousines";
- Changes to driver training requirements (new topics and categories, such as child seats and stretchers);
- Vehicles must now carry a body fluid cleanup kit and seat belt extender; and
- Changes in the daily vehicle inspection conducted by provider and eliminated weekly inspection.
