Be alert for tree cutting crews along Hwy 19 in Marshall

WILMAR, Minn. —The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that crews will begin removing trees and brush along Hwy 19 in Marshall within the next two weeks to prepare for the Hwy 19 reconstruction project that begins this May. Tree removal is scheduled to be completed by March 31.

Travel impacts

  • Drivers may encounter shoulder and lane closures during tree cutting work
  • Flaggers may be present during the cleanup and removal of downed trees and brush
  • Travelers are asked to slow down in the project area and be alert for workers and heavy equipment

Project summary

Clearing is necessary along select areas of Hwy 19 from Marlene Street through the Bruce Street intersection to make room for construction and sidewalk improvements. Work is being done now so it doesn’t disrupt nesting of northern long-eared bats in spring.

The two-year Hwy 19 reconstruction project includes replacing pavement, sanitary sewer and watermain; constructing a single-lane roundabout; and updating sidewalks and pedestrian ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Trees will be replaced in the fall of 2026.
