MnDOT concludes Complete Streets Assessment of Highway 75 in Pipestone

WILLMAR, Minn. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has finished a Complete Streets Assessment of Highway 75 between County Road 57 and Highway 30 in Pipestone.

A Complete Streets Assessment is a study used to evaluate how well a street or road serves all roadway users, including pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and public transit users. The study looks at how safe, accessible, and efficient the street is for all types of travel, and it identifies potential improvements that benefit everyone using the roadway.

MnDOT initiated the assessment in April 2024 to summarize existing conditions and potential design alternatives along the Highway 75 corridor. The recommendations detailed in the study can be used to help make future roadway design decisions. MnDOT has a project on this corridor in their Capital Highway Improvement Program for 2029, which can be found at mndot.gov/planning/10yearplan .

As part of this assessment, MnDOT first evaluated the existing conditions along the corridor. MnDOT then engaged with the community and project partners to identify a shared vision for people who drive, walk, bike, or roll on Highway 75.

After reviewing a series of potential roadway design alternatives, MnDOT held a second phase of engagement with key audiences to gather final feedback on potential design recommendations. This phase involved businesses along the corridor, project partners, community residents, and other roadway users.

An executive summary with more information about the Hwy 75 Complete Streets Assessment, recommended improvements, and next steps is available on the project website at Hwy-75-pipestone-complete-streets-assessment.
