Alternative Delivery Unit
Goal
The goal of Alternative Delivery is to better equip owners, such as MnDOT, to address projects that present unique and complex challenges not well suited to the traditional design-bid-build method and to benefit the public by providing best-value contracting options as compared to low-bid.
The purpose of the Alternative Delivery Unit is to provide the guidance and support needed for MnDOT to select and successfully deliver alternative delivery projects.

- Project delivery method selection guidance/advice
- Conducting/facilitating formal project delivery selection workshops
- Assistance and advice for alternative delivery project teams from scoping through construction, occasionally as direct project team members
- Awareness of the laws, rules, and regulations that pertain to alternative delivery processes
- Awareness of alternative delivery practices, both locally and nationally
- Management/oversight of alternative delivery procurements
- Managing MnDOT’s CM/GC estimating and price proposal (bid) processes
- Managing MnDOT’s master Alternative Delivery General Engineering Consultant Contract (GEC)
- Alternative delivery programmatic direction
- Programmatic industry/stakeholder outreach
- Managing legislative requirements
What you need to provide to the unit
- Information regarding projects that may be alternative delivery candidates
- Preliminary project information (layout, environmental document, preliminary permits, investigations, surveys, value engineering workshop results) needed/beneficial for alternative delivery procurements
- Qualified and committed project management staff
