Area Transportation Partnerships (ATPs)
Function
The ATPs are partnerships of traditional and nontraditional transportation professionals and interested parties that integrate regional transportation priorities within each region of the state. Their boundaries generally follow the MnDOT District State Aid boundaries. Each ATP has a specific interest in the investment of state and federal transportation funds within its boundaries. Their primary role is to bring together federally funded transportation improvement recommendations from regional development organizations (RDOs), metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), MnDOT, and other partners into an integrated list of transportation investments for its region called the Area Transportation Improvement Program (ATIP). All ATIPs come together to make up the State Transportation Investment Program (STIP). The ATPs have the opportunity to review and comment on the draft STIP. Once there is a complete, approved STIP, parties requesting to make amendments to it typically consult with the affected ATP.
