Survey Automation Unit
Goal
To create and support software applications to increase efficiency and accuracy in the daily tasks of MnDOT surveying personnel.
Products the unit provides
- 60+ applications both internal and public to automate land surveying related tasks, including database interactions, file manipulations, coordinate geometry calculations, reporting, and others
- 55+ MicroStation macros used by the Photogrammetric and Platting Units in assembling CAD drawings
- Coding and support for new and existing applications throughout MnDOT surveying offices
What to expect from the unit
- New software application for the surveying field to increase accuracy and efficiency thereby saving time and money
- Support for existing applications
- Rewriting or modifying existing applications as needed so they continue to function with new versions of third-party software
What you need to provide to the unit
- Detailed information in writing regarding the location and format of the source data to be accessed by a new application
- Detailed information as to the objective of the submitted request
- Detailed information about the expected outcome and its format, be it a report, an Excel file, or changes in the Geodetic database
What the unit expects from you
- Clarification of the initial work request as needed while the project is in progress
- Feedback from the testing of the new or modified software
- Sharing the capabilities of the new software with other MnDOT surveying personnel
