Remaining work on Hwy 23 Pipestone bridge begins April 7

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that crews will return April 7 to complete remaining details on the 2024 Highway 23 Pipestone bridge project. The bridge is located east of the Highway 23 and Highway 75 intersection in Pipestone. Work will take approximately two weeks, subject to weather and other unforeseeable circumstances.

Highway 23 will be open to traffic; however, bridge lanes will be 12-feet wide with no shoulder and shifted as needed. Travelers are asked to be alert for occasional lane closures with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.

Project summary
In 2024, MnDOT resurfaced 30 miles of Highway 23 from Pipestone to Russell. A culvert was replaced near Florence, and additional culverts were lined along the project corridor. In addition, the bridge deck east of the Highway 23 and Highway 75 intersection in Pipestone was replaced. Remaining punch list items for the bridge deck replacement were scheduled for completion this spring.
Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface and improved drainage. Central Specialties is the primary contractor, and the project cost is approximately $11.2 million.
