ProjectWise external client access

Anyone authorized to access MnDOT data through our Bentley ProjectWise system must be aware of the information and practices in the following documents.

Bentley license requirement for external partners using MnDOT ProjectWise
As of May 8th, 2021 every external project partner connecting to MnDOT’s ProjectWise system must provide their own Bentley License and software.

Getting a Bentley license: Small user base or short term license’s may be obtained via: Bentley Virtuosity for Project Delivery
Bentley also offers larger corporate license products. You will need to work with Bentley to determine which license type best fits your needs.
Bentley’s “ProjectWise Explorer Virtuoso Subscription” generally allows:

Install of a desktop ProjectWise Explorer (PWE) client.
Access to ProjectWise – but not use of other Bentley software (PowerGEOPAK, MicroStation, etc.).

Should you be asked about MnDOT’s ProjectWise system:
MnDOT’s ProjectWise servers and files are on-premise and not in the cloud. Stipulate to Bentley that any license you would get should allow you to install a Bentley ProjectWise Explorer desktop client and use it to connect via a ProjectWise Gateway (Current ProjectWise ver.10.00.03.434).

CONNECT Edition OpenRoads Designer

In calendar year 2023, MnDOT is migrating from PowerGEOPAK to CONNECT Edition OpenRoads Designer as the agency CADD Standard for starting projects. Consultant partners are directed to their MnDOT contract and its project manager regarding which CADD Standard applies to specific deliverables. Use of these standard workspaces allows designers to create CADD documents that adhere to MnDOT publication standards for engineering plans. The ProjectWise system may only be accessed by MnDOT staff and external partners who have obtained an access authorization from their MnDOT Project Manager.

This site provides access to MnDOT’s agency wide CADD resources. They are in the agency standard Bentley Power GEOPAK format. Use of these files allows designers to create CADD documents that adhere to MnDOT publication standards for engineering plans.
