This project includes the reconstruction of Hwy 33 from the Doddridge Avenue/Big Lake Road intersection through the Cloquet Avenue intersection. MnDOT studied intersection improvements at Carlton Avenue and Cloquet Avenue, and after traffic and safety analysis and public input, the decision was made to replace the signal lights. Other corridor improvements include bike and pedestrian facilities, new lighting and new drainage infrastructure.
Throughout 2024, MnDOT conducted an intersection control evaluation (ICE study) to determine improvements at Carlton Avenue and Cloquet Avenue intersections. The state engaged the public and studied traffic and safety analysis to determine enhanced signal lights at both intersections. Materials from that process can be found below.
