Building Services

Purpose

In addition to building and maintaining highways, MnDOT also constructs and maintains over 1000 buildings including truck stations, rest areas, district headquarters, weigh stations, deicing structures, and more. If there is a building on your project, work with the Building Services Section to ensure you are properly addressing design, building code, energy code, and other regulatory permitting requirements for those buildings.

When to use this subject

You will need to look at building services issues any time you have a project that includes construction of, modifications to, or demolition of a MnDOT building.

For specific process information, see the other guidance page or contact the individuals on the contacts page.

How this subject fits into the overall project development process

Contact the Building Services Section during the scoping phase of the project.  You will need to provide them with anticipated building needs at that time.  Building work is subject to additional rules and regulation beyond those which apply to highway and bridge construction. Building work may require documents prepared and certified by a licensed Architect or Engineer, plan review, permitting and inspections by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, and a separate letting through the Department of Administration.
